KRB Race Day

RACE DAY

As part of squad expectations, all swimmers in Transition, Bronze, Silver, Gold and National squads are required to participate in KRB Race Days and designated targeted meets throughout the season.

KRB Club Race Day is a highlight of each swim term and is held typically in Week 4. This in-house event provides all swimmers with a valuable opportunity to gain race experience in a familiar, supportive and fun environment.

Swimmers may enter up to four events on the day, with races offered across all strokes—freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, as well as the individual medley.

Club Race Day helps swimmers apply the skills they’ve developed in training under race conditions, while also building confidence, race strategies and familiarity with competition procedures.

Beyond performance, Race Day fosters team spirit and camaraderie. It’s a great chance for swimmers to challenge themselves, support their teammates and celebrate progress. Race Day also offers excellent preparation for external meets, allowing swimmers to refine their technique, improve times, and set personal goals in a low-pressure setting.

SWIM TIPS FOR RACE DAY

Know Your Events
Swimmers are expected to know which events they are competing in prior to the start of the meet. To help stay organised on race day, we recommend writing event numbers, stroke and distance on your hand. This simple strategy ensures swimmers are prepared, confident and ready behind the blocks when it’s time to race.

Warming Up
A proper warm-up is essential for optimal performance and injury prevention. All swimmers are required to warm up prior to the start of competition. Warm-up will commence 30 minutes before the scheduled start time. This time allows swimmers to prepare physically and mentally, activate their race skills and familiarise themselves with the pool environment. Arriving on time and completing the full warm-up is a vital part of race day preparation.

Timelines
An event timeline will be distributed prior to Race Day to help swimmers plan and prepare. Please note that timelines are a guide only and may be subject to change on the day.

It is the swimmer’s responsibility to regularly check the marshalling board throughout the event, as sudden changes or adjustments to the running order may occur. Staying alert and informed ensures swimmers are ready to marshal on time and do not miss their races.

Marshalling
All swimmers must report to the courtyard marshalling area when their event is called.

To ensure a safe and efficient race day experience, the marshalling area is strictly reserved for swimmers only. Parents and siblings are not permitted in this space to help us maintain a focused, safe and orderly environment for all competitors.
