How do I book into lessons?
All new customers wishing to enrol in LTS classes are required to create an account via the My Enrolments tab on our website.
Children are grouped according to swimming skills. No assessments are required for children under the age of 3 years. They are automatically enrolled into one of our ‘Baby and Me’ classes depending on their age: Tadpoles 6-12 months; Frogs 12 – 24 months; or Seahorse for 2-3 year olds.
Children over the age of 3 and unable to swim 5m unassisted, will be enrolled into the Goldfish level. All other children will be required to come in for assessment, so that they can be allocated a correct level.
How do I see or make changes to my child’s enrolment
The My Enrolment tab on our web page is where you logon to: Record an Advance Absences, Book a Make-up, Pay my Fees, Complete My Re-enrolment, Lookup My Class Times, Update My Email/Mobile Details.
To logon, ONLY your Family Name & Email is required to logon from a PC or mobile device.
What should my child wear to their lesson?
All swimmers are required to wear appropriate swimwear. Swimming caps are compulsory. (available for purchase from Pool reception $15)
Babies and toddlers are required to wear a swimmer’s nappy under a purpose fitted neoprene swimming nappy: ‘happy nappy / toastee pants’ to prevent any accidents in the pool. We ask that all used nappies are disposed of, off site, rather than in one of our bins.
The nappy should be quite difficult to get on, and fit snugly around the legs and waist. They should not be so tight that are leaving red marks on the legs. The nappy underneath should be COMPLETELY hidden. Toastee pants are available at the swim office $25.
We recommend a one-piece swimsuit for girls and tight fitting swimming togs for boys. Rashies, board shorts and wetsuits are not encouraged as they can make learning to swim difficult. Regular lycra rash vests don’t add warmth and if not firm fitting, add drag and hinder arm movements.
All swimmers are strongly encouraged to wear correctly fitting goggles, also available for purchase from Pool Reception ($15/$30).
Jewellery should not be worn.
Squad swimmers should bring their own fins, kick board and a water bottle.
Do I need to be in the pool with my child?
A parent/career is required to be in the water with children under 3 years.
Can I sit on pool deck while my child is swimming?
For the safety and health of Children, Instructors and Deck Supervisors, the RED area surrounding the pool is a parent/carer free zone at all times.
KRB swimming permits parents/carers of children under 6 to sit in the grandstand to watch their child’s lesson. We request that you trust our instructors and refrain from hovering by your child’s lane once you have handed them over to their instructor, as this can be detrimental to the child and delay the learning process.
We ask that you arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to the lesson start time and leave no more than 15 minutes after the lesson, in order to facilitate safe changing rooms and grandstand access .
My child is not well, can they still attend their lesson?
Children should not attend swimming lessons if they are unwell. Any open cuts should be covered. Children must not attend lessons if they are suffering from:
Flu, fever, head cold, runny nose, sore throats
Vomiting, diarrhea
Any contagious disease – impetigo, conjunctivitis, chicken pox.
Do you provide make up lessons?
We allow one make up lesson per term. You can mark your child absent via the online customer portal or by email to swimming@krb.nsw.edu.au. Make up lessons are subject to class availability, and we cannot guarantee the same instructor. Missed Makeup lessons cannot be rebooked. Makeup lessons can only be booked 7 days in advance via the KRB customer portal.
How do I know when my child is ready to move levels?
Every class level has set skills which must be achieved for a child to progress.
Progression depends on many factors; it is important to remember that every child is different and progresses at their own pace. It is not uncommon for a swimmer to remain in the same class for several terms. All children learn at a different rate. It important to ensure all skills are performed competently before progression to the next level. The more your child pays attention and practices, the quicker you will see results.
When are children assessed?
The assessment process at KRB is continuous. Our experienced Deck Supervisors monitor lessons and conduct assessment on an ongoing basis. This allows for children to be promoted as soon as they meet the level skills-based criteria.
You are welcome to approach the Deck Supervisors for feedback at any time. We ask that you do not interrupt our Instructors or Coaches.
Children who have attained all achievements for their current level are encouraged to move to the next level immediately, including mid-term movements.
My child does not seem to be progressing as fast as the other children
A child progressing through our program should (on average) take 3 terms at each level. However, the speed of progress differs for each child and depends on several factors.
Learning speed is affected by: age, flexibility, co-ordination, flexibility, fears, amount of practise, ability to follow instructions, distractibility and attitude and wiliness to learn. Try to refrain from making comparison between siblings or friends.
Consistency and patience are the two main components for progress. It is not uncommon for children to plateau in performance during their learn-to-swim journey and this can happen at any level and will differ from person to person. Some children initially pick up skills quickly, then plateau, while others may be a little delayed, but then take off.
We ask that you trust the process and refrain for sideline teaching, as this can have a negative effect and may also contradict the Instructor, resulting in conflict and confusion for your child.
If you feel your child is not responding to their Instructor, please speak with the Deck Supervisor and they will try to find an alternative.
How can I fast track my child’s progress?
2 x lesson per week, Holiday Intensives, Private lessons or visiting your local pool are great ways to accelerate the learning process.
If your child is not progressing well in a group setting, then private swim classes are an option. One-to-one learning is great for children who may feel a little scared of water and could be just what is needed to kick start their swimming journey.
Will my child stay with the same Instructor for the term?
We always try our best to ensure consistency of instructor during the term, but we cannot guarantee this. Occasionally instructors are unwell, or leave, or are unable to attend for other reasons. All instructors are qualified through Austswim, Swim Australia or Royal Life Saving and complete the same KRB training. They also hold current CPR and WWC check.
What can I do to stop my baby/child from crying at the pool?
First try to determine what is upsetting your child. Are they tired, hungry, cold? Are they fearful of getting eyes or ears wet? Once you identify the problem it is a lot easier to fix.
If your baby/child cries, avoid taking them out of the water. If young swimmers are allowed to get out of the pool every time they cry, then they are going to associate being upset with getting out of the pool which will defeat the purpose of the lesson.
Can I photograph or video my child during their swim lesson?
Photography and video are not permitted within our pool.
We ask that you respect the wishes of other customers who may not wish to have themselves or their children photographed or filmed whilst attending lessons or using the facilities.
Can I request that my child’s lesson is taught by their favourite Instructor?
While we cannot make any promises, we will take your request into account and try and accommodate your preferences as best we can.
Do you have change facilities?
KRB Swimming is doing everything we can to make sure everyone remains safe and healthy. Our changing rooms are now open for use, however we still strongly encourage swimmers to arrive ‘ready to swim’ and have a quick change after their lessons.
Our Pool has female, male, disabled, baby change facilities and separate female and male toilets. For the safety of all, we request that parent/carer only accompany their child in the changing room where help is required, or the child requires additional specific assistance.
All children 6 yrs and over should change in their specific gender changing rooms.
Children should not get changed on poolside in front of others.
Do you offer Adult lessons?
We offer an adult squad which caters for all levels of adult (16+) swimming. Participants should be able to swim freestyle competently for at least 100m. All four strokes are offered, although none are compulsory. The coach will provide stroke correction, training and competitive advice.
